Who Says It's Women's Work?

First off I'll admit it. I like to sew. I haven't done much, but I learn so much every time I pull out the machine. How did I start? Well, I guess you could say it began when I was a kid, being toted around to the fabric store with my mom, fumbling through pattern catalogs and touching every bolt of fabric we passed. But it really began this summer when Katie, my wife, pulled out her Singer machine that she bought herself for Christmas last year. She sewed a few things and it got me thinking, I could do this too. My main goal at the time was completely "Geeky". I wanted to make some Jedi robes for me and my kids. (By the way I'm a huge Star Wars fan.) After Katie got hooked sewing she bought herself a serger to go along with the sewing machine she already had. This was great. Katie went back to work(as a teacher) and I found myself with some free time while my youngest napped and the two older kids played together. I pulled out the machines and gathered some fabric I bought at the thrift store and started sewing. With a little help from some online tutorials, I had the robes made in just a few days. I also had enough fabric left over to do a robe for my daughter's doll. I have a few projects in mind for the next few months and Katie wants to make Christmas gifts this year, but first we need to focus on Halloween. I'm sure it will creep up on us.
